David C. Johnson, MD Board Certified General Surgeon by the American College of Surgeons

The FACS after the name indicates that the physician has completed requirements established by the American College of Surgeons, one of the oldest and most recognized organizations in the field of surgery. The recognition is granted after successfully completing a five year "residency training" period of supervised, graduated responsibility. Additionally, a comprehensive written and oral examination is required after qualifying for the exam through a year of practice and receiving recommendations by other fellows of the college. Finally, the certification expires every ten years and the fellow must be re-examined for ongoing knowledge and practice skills.
